Verse text

siddhāśramasya māhātmyaṁ śṛṇu rājan mahā-mate yasya smaraṇa-mātreṇa sarva-pāpaiḥ pramucyate

Synonyms

siddhāśramasya of Siddhāśrama māhātmyam—glories ; śṛṇu please hear ; rājan O king ; mahā-mate noble-hearted ; yasya of which ; smaraṇa hearing ; mātreṇa simply by ; sarva-pāpaiḥ all sins ; pramucyate freed.

Translation

O noble-hearted king, please hear the glories of Siddhāśrama. Simply by hearing its glories one becomes free of all sins.

yat-sparśanād dhareḥ sākṣān na viyogo bhavet kvacit taṁ ca siddhāśramaṁ nāma vadantīha purā-vidaḥ

Synonyms

yat-sparśanāt by touching it ; hareḥ of Lord Kṛṣṇa ; sākṣān directly ; na not ; viyogaḥ separated ; bhavet becomes ; kvacit sometime ; tam it ; ca and ; siddhāśramam Siddhāśrama ; nāma named ; vadanti say ; iha —here ; purā-vidaḥ they who know the truth of ancient times.

Translation

One who touches the land of Siddhāśrama will never be separated from Lord Kṛṣṇa. They who know the truth of ancient times say this place is named Siddhāśrama.

darśanād yasya sālokyaṁ sāmīpyaṁ sparśanāt tathā sārūpyaṁ snānato yāti sāyujyaṁ tan-nivāsataḥ

Synonyms

darśanāt by the sight ; yasya of which ; sālokyam salokya ; sāmīpyam samipya ; sparśanāt by the touch ; tathā so ; sārūpyam sarupya ; snānataḥ by bathing ; yāti attains ; sāyujyam sayujya ; tan-nivāsataḥ by residing.

Translation

By seeing Siddhāśrama one attains sālokya liberation. By touching it one attains sāmīpya liberation. By bathing there one attains sārūpya liberation. By residing there one attains sāyujya liberation.

tat-tīrthasyāpi māhātmyaṁ śrutvā candrānanā-mukhāt rādhā snātuṁ manaś cakre kṛṣṇa-vīkṣepa-vihvalā

Translation

When Śrī Rādhā, who was broken-hearted in separation from Lord Kṛṣṇa, heard from Candrānanā's mouth the glories of Siddhāśrama, She decided bathe in that holy place.

śrī-siddhāśrama-yātrāyāṁ sūrya-parvaṇi mādhave rādhā gantuṁ manaś cakre utthāya kadalī-vanāt

Synonyms

śrī-siddhāśrama-yātrāyām onm a pilgrimage to Siddhāśrama ; sūrya-parvaṇi on the sūrya-parva day ; mādhave in the moth of Mādhava ; rādhā Rādhā ; gantum to go ; manaḥ mind ; cakre placing ; utthāya rising ; kadalī-vanāt from Kadalīvana.

Translation

Leaving the forest of Kadalīvana on the sūrya-parva day in the month of Mādhava (April-May), Śrī Rādhā decided to go on a pilgrimage to Siddhāśrama.

gopīnāṁ śata-yūthena sarva-gopa-gaṇaiḥ saha śata-varṣe vyatīte tu śrīdāmnaḥ śāpa-kāraṇāt

Translation

śrī-rādhā sibikārūḍhā chatra-cāmara-vījitā ānarteṣu mahā-tīrthaṁ yayau siddhāśramaṁ satī gopīnām—of gopīs; śata-yūthena—with a hundred groups; sarva-gopa-gaṇaiḥ—with all the gopas; saha—with; śata-varṣe—a hundred years; vyatīte—passed; tu—indeed; śrīdāmnaḥ—of Śrīdāmā; śāpa-kāraṇāt—from the curse; śrī-rādhā—Śrī Rādhā; sibikārūḍhā—on a palanquin; chatra—parasol; cāmara—camaras; vījitā—fanned; ānarteṣu—in Anarta-deśa; mahā-tīrtham—top the great holy place; yayau—went; siddhāśramam—to Siddhāśrama; satī—saintly. Now that the hundred years of Śrīdāmā's curse had passed, saintly Śrī Rādhā, riding on a palanquin, a parasol held over Her, fanned by many cāmaras, and accompanied by a hundred groups of gopīs and all the gopas, went to holy Siddhāśrama in the country of Anarta.

Translation

O king, accompanied by His sixteen-thousand queens and all His relatives in the Yādava dynasty, Lord Kṛṣṇa also went on a pilgrimage to Siddhāśrama.

baliṣṭhā ye ca gopālāḥ koṭiśaḥ śastra-pāṇayaḥ siddhāśramaṁ tu jugupuḥ sarvato rādhikājṣayā

Synonyms

baliṣṭhā strong ; ye who ; ca and ; gopālāḥ gopas ; koṭiśaḥ millions ; śastra-pāṇayaḥ weapons in hand ; siddhāśramam Siddhāśrama ; tu indeed ; jugupuḥ protected ; sarvataḥ everywhere ; rādhikā of Śrī Rādhā ; ājṣayā by the order.

Translation

By Śrī Rādhā 's order many millions of strong gopas, weapons in hand, protected the pilgrimage-party in Siddhāśrama.

śata-yūthās tathā gopyo vetra-hastā mahā-balāḥ siddhāśrame tu vidhivat snāntīṁ rādhāṁ siṣevire

Synonyms

śata-yūthāḥ a hundred groups ; tathā so ; gopyaḥ gopīs ; vetra-hastā sticks in hand ; mahā-balāḥ very strong ; siddhāśrame in Siddhāśrama ; tu indeed ; vidhivat properly ; snāntīm bathing ; rādhām Rādhā ; siṣevire served.

Translation

Sticks in hand, a hundred groups of very strong gopīs protected and served Śrī Rādhā as She bathed at Siddhāśrama.

dvārakā-vāsināṁ teṣāṁ sthitānāṁ snānam icchatām śastra-vetrais tāḍitānāṁ viviśur bhagavat-striyaḥ

Synonyms

dvārakā-vāsinām as the men of Dvārakā ; teṣām they ; sthitānām situated ; snānam bathing ; icchatām desiring ; śastra weapons ; vetraiḥ sticks ; tāḍitānām beaten ; viviśuḥ entered ; bhagavat-striyaḥ the wives of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Translation

As the men of Dvārakā, wishing to bathe there, were being beaten with sticks, Lord Kṛṣṇa's queens entered that place.

keyaṁ snātīti papracchur yasyā vaibhavam adbhutam yad-gauravāt trasantīha sarve yādava-puṅgavāḥ

Synonyms

who? ; iyam She ; snātī bathing ; iti thus ; papracchuḥ asked ; yasyā pf whom ; vaibhavam the power ; adbhutam wonderful ; yad-gauravāt out of respect for whom ; trasanti fear ; iha here ; sarve all ; yādava-puṅgavāḥ the best of the Yādavas.

Translation

The queens asked: Who is the girl bathing here? Her power is wonderful. The best of the Yādava warriors are terrified of Her.

aho kasya priyāṁ ceyaṁ kā nāma kutra vāsinī tvaṁ sarva-jṣo hi bhagavān vada no devakī-suta

Translation

Who is Her beloved? What is Her name? Where does She live? O Lord, You know everything. O son of Devakī, please tell us.

śrī-bhagavān uvāca vṛṣabhānu-sutā sākṣād rādheyaṁ kīrti-nandinī vrajeśvarī mad-dayitā gopikādhīśvarī varā

Synonyms

śrī-bhagavān uvāca the Supreme Personality of Godhead said ; vṛṣabhānu of King Vṛṣabhānu ; sutā the daughter ; sākṣāt directly ; rādhā Rādhā ; iyam She ; kīrti of Kīrti ; nandinī the daughter ; vrajeśvarī the queen of Vraja ; mad-dayitā My beloved ; gopikādhīśvarī the queen of the gopīs ; varā exalted.

Translation

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: She is named Rādhā. She is the daughter of Kīrti and Vṛṣabhānu. She is the queen of Vraja and the queen of the gopīs. She is very exalted. I am Her beloved.

snātuṁ siddhāśramaṁ prāptā vrajād gopī-gaṇaiḥ saha yad-gauravāt trasanty ete tasyā vaibhavam adbhutam

Synonyms

Translation

Accompanied by many gopīs, from Vraja She has come to bathe at Siddhāśrama. The great Yādava warriors are terrified of Her. That is Her wonderful power.

śrī-kṛṣṇasya vacaḥ śrutvā satyabhāmātha bhāminī śanaiḥ prāha sapatnīnāṁ rūpa-yauvana-garvitā

Synonyms

śrī-kṛṣṇasya of Śrī Kṛṣṇa ; vacaḥ the words ; śrutvā hearing ; atha then ; bhāminī beautiful ; śanaiḥ slowly ; prāha said ; sapatnīnām of her co-wives ; rūpa-yauvana-garvitā proud of her youthful beauty.

Translation

After hearing Lord Kṛṣṇa's words, beautiful Satyabhāmā, who proudly thought herself the queen whose youthful beauty was the greatest, slowly said:

kiṁ nu rādhā rūpavatī nāhaṁ rūpavatī kim u bahubhir yācitā pūrvaṁ rūpaudārya-guṇārcitā

Synonyms

Translation

Why is Rādhā so beautiful? Am I not beautiful? Beauty and virtue worship me. Many begged for my hand.

mad-rūpa-kāraṇāt sakhyaḥ śatadhanvā mṛto 'bhavat akrūraḥ kṛtavarmā ca purā tau dvau palāyitau

Synonyms

mad-rūpa-kāraṇāt because of my beauty ; sakhyaḥ O freinds ; śatadhanvā Satadhanva ; mṛtaḥ died ; abhavat became ; akrūraḥ Akrūra ; kṛtavarmā Kṛtavarmā ; ca and ; purā before ; tau they ; dvau both ; palāyitau fled.

Translation

Because of my beauty Akrūra and Kṛtavarmā fled and Śatadhanvā died.

dine dine svarṇa-bhārān aṣṭāu sa sṛjati svataḥ durbhikṣa-māry-ariṣṭāni sarvādhi-vyādhayo 'śubhāḥ

Translation

na santi māyinas tatra yatrāste 'bhyarcito maṇiḥ mat-pitrā paribarhe 'pi dattaḥ sākṣāt syamantakaḥ dine dine—day after day; svarṇa-bhārān—bharas of gold; aṣṭāu—eight; sa—it; sṛjati—creates; svataḥ—itselkf; durbhikṣa—famines; māry—plague; ariṣṭāni—calamities; sarva—all; ādhi—sufferings; vyādhayaḥ—diseases; aśubhāḥ—inauspicious; na—not; santi—are; māyinaḥ—theives; tatra—there; yatra—where; āste—is; abhyarcitaḥ—worshiped; maṇiḥ—jewel; mat-pitrā—by my father; paribarhe—as a wedding present; api—even; dattaḥ—given; sākṣāt—directly; syamantakaḥ—Syamantaka. On the day of my marriage as a wedding present my father gave the Syamantaka jewel. That jewel produces eight bhāras of gold every day. In the country where that jewel is worshiped there are no famines, plagues, calamities, diseases, thieves, or anything inauspicious.

tena jātaṁ mad-gṛhe 'pi sarvaṁ vaibhavam adbhutam premṇā pareṇa śrī-kṛṣṇa- garuḍopari-gāminī

Translation

Because of that jewel there is great power in my home. Because of that jewel Lord Kṛṣṇa loves me and took me riding on Garuḍa.

bhaumāsura-mahā-yuddhaṁ duṣṭaṁ prāgjyotiṣaṁ puram mamāpi kṛpayā yūyaṁ tat-purāc ca samāgatāḥ

Synonyms

bhaumāsura-mahā-yuddham a great battle with Bhaumāsura ; duṣṭam horrible ; prāgjyotiṣam Pragjyosia ; puram city ; mama of me ; api also ; kṛpayā with mercy ; yūyam you ; tat-purāt from that city ; ca and ; samāgatāḥ come.

Translation

Because of me Lord Kṛṣṇa attacked Prāgjyotiṣa City and fought with Bhaumāsura. It is by my mercy that you all came from Bhaumāsura's City.

prāptāḥ śrī-kṛṣṇa-patnītvaṁ sarvā eva na saṁśayaḥ mad-gauravāc ca śakrasya chatraṁ dattam anena vai

Synonyms

prāptāḥ attained ; śrī-kṛṣṇa-patnītvam teh status of Lord's Kṛṣṇa's eife ; sarvā all ; eva indeed ; na no ; saṁśayaḥ doubt ; mad-gauravāt by respectf for me ; ca and ; śakrasya of Indra ; chatram the parasol ; dattam given ; anena by Him ; vai indeed.

Translation

It is by my mercy that all of you became Lord Kṛṣṇa's wives. Of that there is no doubt. It is because of me that Lord Kṛṣṇa returned Indra's parasol.

kuṇḍale deva-mātre ca datte vai mat-priyecchayā airāvata-bhavā nāgā bhaumāsura-samṛddhayaḥ

Translation

mad-icchayā samānītāḥ śrī-kṛṣṇena mahātmanā mat-kāraṇān mahā-vairaṁ śakre 'pi kṛtavān hariḥ kuṇḍale—two earrings; deva-mātre—to the mother of the demigods; ca—and; datte—given; vai—indeed; mat-priya—of my beloved; icchayā—by the wish; airāvata—of Airāvata; bhavāḥ—the nature; nāgā—elephants; bhaumāsura-samṛddhayaḥ—the opulences of Bhaumasura; mat—of me; icchayā—by the desire; samānītāḥ—brought; śrī-kṛṣṇena—by Śrī Kṛṣṇa; mahātmanā—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; mat-kāraṇān—because of me; mahā-vairam—great enmity; śakre—with Indra; api—even; kṛtavān—did; hariḥ—Kṛṣṇa. Because of my wish Lord Kṛṣṇa returned Aditi's earrings and Indra's parasol. Because of my wish Lord Kṛṣṇa took Bhaumāsura's riches and his elephants powerful as Airāvata. Becasue of me Lord Kṛṣṇa fought with Indra.

Translation

mad-dvāre vartate nityaṁ vṛkṣendraḥ parijātakaḥ pātivratyenaiva mayā śrī-kṛṣṇo 'yaṁ vaśī-kṛtaḥ

Synonyms

mad-dvāre at my doorway ; vartate is ; nityam always ; vṛkṣendraḥ the king of trees ; parijātakaḥ Parijata ; pātivratyena by devotion ot my husband ; eva indeed ; mayā by me ; śrī-kṛṣṇaḥ Śrī Kṛṣṇa ; ayam He ; vaśī-kṛtaḥ is conquered.

Translation

By the doorway of my house a pārijāta, the king of trees, eternally grows. With devotion to Him I have brought Lord Kṛṣṇa under my control.

sarvopaskara-samyukto nāradāya samarpitaḥ mat-samānaṁ na kasyāstu gauravaṁ vaibhavaṁ tathā

Synonyms

Translation

It is becasue of me that Lord gave many gifts to Nārada Muni. No one is my equal. Who is glorious and powerful like me?

O Rukmiṇi with the beautiful eyebrows, Śiśupāla and a host of kings fought over your beauty. Are you not beautiful? Friends, this Rādhā is only a cowherd girl. You are all princesses. You are fortunate and glorious. You are all worthy to be worshiped.

rūpaudaryaṁ na kasyāstu rādhāyāḥ kim u varṇaṇam yad-rūpopari caidyādyā anena yuyudhur yudhi

Translation

O Rukmiṇi with the beautiful eyebrows, Śiśupāla and a host of kings fought over your beauty. Are you not beautiful? Friends, this Rādhā is only a cowherd girl. You are all princesses. You are fortunate and glorious. You are all worthy to be worshiped.

evaṁ tu satyabhāmāyāṁ vadantyāṁ maithileśvara bhūtvā mānavatī sarvā rukmiṇy-ādyāḥ striyo varāḥ

Synonyms

Translation

O king of Mithilā, as Satyabhāmā spoke these words, Śrī Rukmiṇī and the other beautiful queens became filled with pride.

kuśa-kauśala-śīlārtha- rūpa-yauvana-garvitāḥ śrī-kṛṣṇaṁ mānadaṁ prāhur aṣṭā paṭṭa-mahā-striyaḥ

Translation

Proud of their good fortune, virtues, wealth, and youthful beauty, the eight principal queens spoke to humble Lord Kṛṣṇa.

śrī-rājṣya ūcuḥ śrutaṁ tava mukhāt pūrvaṁ rādhā-rūpaṁ paraṁ smṛtam yasyāṁ raktaḥ sadā tvaṁ vai tvayi raktā ca yā sadā

Translation

The queens said: From Your own mouth we have heard of Śrī Rādhā. We remember You said that You love Her eternally and She loves You eternally.

taṁ rādhāṁ draṣṭum icchāmas tvat-priyāṁ vraja-vāsinīm tvad-viyogena saṅkhinnāṁ snātuṁ cātra samāgatām

Translation

We wish to see Her, Rādhā, Your beloved, who lives in Vraja, and who, unhappy because She is separated from You, has come here to bathe.

śrī-nārada uvāca tathāstu coktvā śrī-kṛṣṇaḥ paṭṭa-strī-pariveṣṭitaḥ ṣoḍaśa-strī-sahasrāḍhyo draṣṭuṁ rādhāṁ jagāma ha

Translation

Śrī Nārada said: Saying, "So be it.", and taking the sixteen thousand queens with Him, Lord Kṛṣṇa went to see Śrī Rādhā.

śrī-hema-śibire ramye patākā-dhvaja-maṇḍite candra-maṇḍala-śobhāḍhye vitāna-tanite śubhe

Synonyms

śrī-hema-śibire on a golden palanquin ; ramye beautiful ; patākā-dhvaja-maṇḍite decorated with flags and designs ; candra the moon ; maṇḍala circle ; śobha with the beauty ; āḍhye opulent ; vitāna-tanite with a parasol ; śubhe beautiful.

Translation

Śrī Rādhā's beautiful golden palanquin was decorated with flags, ornaments, a graceful awning glorious like the moon, . . .

muktā-javanikā yatra vastrair āstaraṇaṁ śubham mālatī-makarandāḍhyaṁ sarvato gandha-saṅkulam

Synonyms

muktā of pearls ; javanikā a curtain ; yatra where ; vastraiḥ with colths ; āstaraṇam spreading ; śubham beautiful ; mālatī -makarandāḍhyam—rich with the nectar of malati flowers ; sarvataḥ everywhere ; gandha-saṅkulam fragrant.

Translation

. . . a curtain of pearls, many opulent cloths, and the all-pervading fragrance of mālatī flowers.

tena bhṛṅgāvalī cakre kalaṁ kolāhalaṁ param tatra rādhā paṭṭa-rājṣī śrī-kṛṣṇa-hṛta-mānasā

Synonyms

Translation

Attracted to that fragrance, many bees made a sweet-sounding commotion. Then the first queen, Śrī Rādhā, Her heart captivated by Lord Kṛṣṇa, came there.

haṁsābhair vyajanair divyair vījyamānā sakhī-janaiḥ chatra-dola-dharais tatra vrajadbhis tam itas tataḥ

Translation

Bearing Her palanquin, holding Her parasol, and fanning Her with fans splendid and graceful as a flock of swans, the gopīs carried Rādhā here and there.

bālārka-kuṇḍala-dharā vidyud-dāma-manoharā koṭi-candra-pratīkāśā tanvī komala-vigrahā

Translation

aṅguly-agraiḥ śobhanaiḥ svaiḥ puṣpa-bhūmiṁ manoharaṁ śanaiḥ śanaiḥ pāda-padmaṁ dhārayanty ati-komalam bālārka-kuṇḍala-dharā—wearing earrings splendid as the rising sun; vidyud-dāma-manoharā—beautiful as a garland of lightning flashes; koṭi-candra-pratīkāśā—glorious as millions of moons; tanvī—slender; komala-vigrahā—Her form delicate; aṅguly-agraiḥ—with Her toes; śobhanaiḥ—beautiful; svaiḥ—own; puṣpa-bhūmim—on the ground of flowers; manoharam—beautiful; śanaiḥ śanaiḥ—slowly; pāda-padmam—lotus feet; dhārayanti—placing; ati-komalam—very delicate. Then slender and delicate Rādhā, splendid as a necklace of lightning flashes, beautiful as millions of moons, and decorated with earrings glorious as the rising sun, gingerly placed first Her graceful toes, and then Her very delicate lotus feet on the ground filled with flowers.

Translation

durāt tāṁ rādhikāṁ prekṣya kṛṣṇa-patnyaḥ sahasraśaḥ jagmur mūrchāṁ mahā-rāja tad-rūpeṇāti-mohitāḥ

Translation

O great king, when they saw Śrī Rādhā from far away, Lord Kṛṣṇa's thousands of queens, overcome by the sight of Her beauty, suddenly fainted.

tat-tejasā hata-rucaḥ sūryāt tārā-gaṇā yathā gata-rūpābhimānās tā ūcuḥ sarvāḥ parasparam

Synonyms

tat-tejasā by Her glory ; hata-rucaḥ their glory was eclipsed ; sūryāt from the sun ; tārā-gaṇā the stars ; yathā as ; gata gone ; rūpa of the beauty ; abhimānāḥ pride ; tāḥ they ; ūcuḥ said ; sarvāḥ all ; parasparam among themselves.

Translation

As the sun makes the many stars seem insignificant so Śrī Rādhā's beauty made the queens' beauty seem insignifant. Their pride in their own beauty now crushed, the queens said among themselves:

aho etādṛśaṁ rūpaṁ tri-lokyāṁ na hi cādbhutam śrutaṁ yathā tathā dṛṣṭaṁ advitīyaṁ manoharam

Translation

Such wonderful beauty has no equal. In the three worlds the like of it has never been seen or heard of before.

evaṁ vadantyas tāṁ prāptāḥ śrī-kṛṣṇasya puraḥ-sarāḥ gopīnāṁ rāja-putrīṇāṁ netrāṇi parirebhire

Translation

As they were speaking these words, Lord Kṛṣṇa's servants approached Śrī Rādhā. It was then that the gopīs and the queens met and their eyes embraced. .pa
