GS 1.11.1

Verse text

paripūrṇatamaḥ sākṣāc chrī-kṛṣṇo bhagavān svayam viveśa vasudevasya manaḥ pūrvaṁ parāt paraḥ

Synonyms

paripūrṇatamaḥ — the Supreme Personality of Godhead ; sākṣāt — directly ; śrī-kṛṣṇaḥ — Śrī Kṛṣṇa ; bhagavān — the Lord ; svayam — Himself ; viveśa — entered ; vasudevasya — of Vasudeva ; manaḥ — the heart ; pūrvam — before ; parāt — than the greatest ; paraḥ — greater.

Translation

Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is greater than the greatest, personally entered Vasudeva's heart.
GS 1.11.2

Verse text

suryendu-vahni-saṅkāśo vasudevo mahā-manāḥ babhūvātyanta-mahasā sākṣād yajṣa ivāparaḥ

Synonyms

surya — sun ; indu — moon ; vahni — fire ; saṅkāśaḥ — glorious ; vasudevaḥ — Vasudeva ; mahā-manāḥ — the great soul ; babhūva — became ; atyanta-mahasā — with great splendor ; sākṣāt — directly ; yajṣaḥ — the Supreme Lord who is the master of all Vedic sacrifices ; iva — like ; aparaḥ — another.

Translation

The great soul Vasudeva shone with a glory like the sun, moon, and fire. He was like a double of the Supreme Lord, the master of all sacrifices.
GS 1.11.3

devakyām āgate kṛṣṇe sarveṣām abhayaṅkare rarāja tena sā gehe ghane saudaminī yathā

Synonyms

devakyām — in Devakī ; āgate — arrived ; kṛṣṇe — when Lord Kṛṣṇa ; sarveṣām — of everyone ; abhayaṅkare — giving fearlessness ; rarāja — shone ; tena — by Him ; sā — she ; gehe — in the home ; ghane — intense ; saudaminī — lightning ; yathā — as.

Translation

When Lord Kṛṣṇa, who gives fearlessness to everyone, entered Devakī, she shone as if a great lightning flash had entered her home.
GS 1.11.4

Verse text

tejovatīṁ ca tāṁ vīkṣya kaṁsaḥ prāha bhayāturaḥ prāpto 'yaṁ prāṇa-hantā me pūrvam eṣā na cedṛśī

Synonyms

tejovatīm — effulgent ; ca — and ; tām — her ; vīkṣya — seeing ; kaṁsaḥ — Kaṁsa ; prāha — said ; bhaya- — with fear ; aturaḥ — overcome ; prāptaḥ — attained ; ayam — this ; prāṇa — of life ; hantā — the killer ; me — of me ; pūrvam — before ; eṣā — she ; na — not ; ca — and ; īdṛśī — like this.

Translation

Seeing her so effulgent, Kaṁsa became frightened. He said, "Now the destroyer of my life has come. She was not like this before.
GS 1.11.5

jāta-mātraṁ haniṣyāmīty uktvāste bhaya-vihvalaḥ paśyan sarvatra ca hariṁ pūrva-śatruṁ vicintayan

Synonyms

jāta — born ; mātram — only ; haniṣyāmi — I will kill ; itit — thus ; uktvā — sayinh ; āste — is ; bhaya-vihvalaḥ — overcome with fear ; paśyan — looking ; sarvatra — everywhere ; ca — also ; harim — Lord Hari ; pūrva — before ; śatrum — enemy ; vicintayan — thinking.

Translation

"As soon as He is born I will kill Him." Saying this, looking in all directions, and thinking of his former enemy Lord Hari, he became filled with fear.
GS 1.11.6

aho vairānubandhena sākṣāt kṛṣṇo 'pi dṛśyate tasmād vairaṁ prakurvanti kṛṣṇa-prāpty-ārtham āsurāḥ

Synonyms

ahaḥ — ah ; vaira-anubandhena — with hatred ; sākṣāt — directly ; kṛṣṇaḥ — Kṛṣṇa ; api — even ; dṛśyate — is seen ; tasmāt — from that ; vairam — hatred ; prakurvanti — do ; kṛṣṇa — Kṛṣṇa ; prāpti-ārtham — to attain ; āsurāḥ — the demons.

Translation

Even by hating Him one is able to see Kṛṣṇa. For this reason, in order to attain the association of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the demons hate Him.
GS 1.11.7

Verse text

atha brahmādayo devā munīndrair asmad-ādibhiḥ śauri-gehopari prāptāḥ stavaṁ cakruḥ praṇamya tam

Synonyms

atha — then ; brahma-ādayaḥ — headed by Brahmā ; devāḥ — the demigods ; muni-indraiḥ — with the kings of the sages ; asmad-ādibhiḥ — headed by me ; śauri — of Vasudeva ; geha — home ; upari — above ; prāptāḥ — attained ; stavam — prayers ; cakruḥ — did ; praṇamya — bowing down ; tam — to Him.

Translation

Then the demigods headed by Brahmā and the great sages headed by me went to Vasudeva's home, bowed down before Lord Kṛṣṇa, and offered many prayers.
GS 1.11.8

śrī-devā ūcuḥ yaj-jāgarādiṣu bhaveṣu paraṁ hy ahetur hetuḥ svid asya vicaranti guṇāśrayena naitad viśanti mahad-indriya-deva-saṅghās tasmai namo 'gnim iva vistṛta-visphuliṅgāḥ

śrī-devāḥ ūcuḥ — the demigods said ; yat — which ; jāgara — waking ; ādiṣu — beginning with ; bhaveṣu — in states of being ; param — supreme ; hi — indeed ; ahetuḥ — not the cause ; hetuḥ — the cause ; svit — whether? ; asya — of Him ; vicaranti — think ; guṇa — the modes ; āśrayena — by the shelter ; na — not ; etat — this ; viśanti — enter ; mahat — mahat ; indriya — senses ; deva — demigods ; saṅghāḥ — multitudes ; tasmai — to Him ; namaḥ — obeisances ; agnim — fire ; iva — like ; vistṛta — expanded ; visphuliṅgāḥ — sparks.

Translation

The demigods said: Taking shelter of the modes of nature, the philosophers wonder, "Is the Supreme the origin of consciousness and other states of being, or is not their origin?" As sparks come from a fire (but do not enter it), so the mahat-tattva, senses, and demigods (come from Him but) do not enter Him. Obeisances to Him, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

naiveṣituṁ prabhur ayaṁ balināṁ balīyān māyā na śabda uta no viṣayī-karoti tad brahma pūrṇam amṛtaṁ paramaṁ praśāntaṁ śuddhaṁ parāt parataraṁ śaraṇaṁ gatāḥ smaḥ

Translation

The strongest of the strong cannot conquer Him. The potency of illusion cannot conquer Him. The Vedas cannot bring Him within their realm of perception. Of Him, the perfect, complete, eternal, peaceful, and pure Supreme Personality of Godhead, we take shelter.
GS 1.11.10

aṁśāṁśakāṁśaka-kalādy-avatāra-vṛndāir āveśa-pūrṇa-sahitaiś ca parasya yasya sargādayaḥ kila bhavanti tam eva kṛṣṇaṁ pūrṇat paraṁ tu paripūrṇatamaṁ natāḥ smaḥ

Translation

With His aṁśa-avatāra, aṁśāṁśa-avatāra, kalā-avatāra, āveśa-avatāra, pūrṇa-avatāra, and many other avatāras, He creates (maintains, and destroys the material universes). To Him, Lord Kṛṣṇa, the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is greater than the pūrṇa-avatāra, we offer our respectful obeisances.

manvantareṣu ca yugeṣu gatāgateṣu kalpeṣu cāṁśa-kalayā sva-vapur bibharṣi adyaiva dhāma paripūrṇatamaṁ tanoṣi dharmaṁ vidhāya bhuvi maṅgalam ātanoṣi

Synonyms

manvantareṣu — in the manvantaras ; ca — also ; yugeṣu — in the yugas ; gata — gone ; āgateṣu — come ; kalpeṣu — in the kalpas ; ca — and ; aṁśa-kalayā — by a part ; sva — own ; vapuḥ — form ; bibharṣi — manifest ; adya — now ; eva — indeed ; dhāma — abode ; paripūrṇatamam — most perfect ; tanoṣi — You manifest ; dharmam — religion ; vidhāya — placing ; bhuvi — on the earth ; maṅgalam — auspicious ; ātanoṣi — You give.

Translation

In manvantaras, yugas, and kalpas past and future You manifest Your own form in partial incarnations, but now You manifest Your original and most perfect form. Establishing the real religion, You bring auspiciousness to the earth.

yad durlabhaṁ viśada-yogibhir apy agamyaṁ gamyaṁ dravadbhir amalāśaya-bhakti-yogaiḥ ānanda-kānda caratas tava manda-yānaṁ pādāravinda-makaranda-rajo dadhāmaḥ

Synonyms

yat — what ; durlabham — difficult to attain ; viśada — pure ; yogibhiḥ — by the yogīs ; api — even ; agamyam — unapproachable ; gamyam — approachable ; dravadbhiḥ — running ; amala — pure ; aśaya — heart ; bhakti-yogaiḥ — by they who engage in the yoga of devotional service ; ānanda — of bliss ; kānda — the root ; carataḥ — moving ; tava — of You ; manda — slow ; yānam — going ; pāda — feet ; aravinda — lotus ; makaranda — honey ; rajaḥ — pollen ; dadhāmaḥ — we place.

Translation

O blissful Lord, we place (in our hearts) the nectar-pollen gently blowing from Your lotus feet as You walk, rare pollen not attained by even the purest yogīs but only by they whose pure hearts melt with love for You.

pūrvaṁ tathātra kamanīya-vapuṣmayaṁ tvāṁ kandarpa-koṭi-śata-mohanam adbhutaṁ ca goloka-dhāma-dhiṣaṇa-dyutim ādadhānaṁ rādhā-patiṁ dharaṇi-dhurya-dhanaṁ dadhāmaḥ

Synonyms

pūrvam — before ; tathā — so ; atra — here ; kamanīya — handsome ; vapuṣmayam — with a form ; tvam — You ; kandarpa — of Kāmadevas ; koṭi-śata — a hundred million ; mohanam — charming ; adbhutam — wonderful ; ca — and ; goloka — of Goloka ; dhāma — the abode ; dhiṣaṇa — abode ; dyutim — splendor ; ādadhānam — taking ; rādhā-patim — the master of Rādhā ; dharaṇi — of the earth ; dhurya — to be held ; dhanam — wealth ; dadhāmaḥ — we place.

Translation

(In our hearts) we place wonderful You, whose handsome form is more charming than a hundred million Kāmadevas, who are the glory of the realm of Goloka, who are the master of Rādhā and the wealth of the earth.

śrī-nārada uvāca natvā hariṁ tadā devā brahmādyā munibhiḥ saha gāyantas taṁ praśaṁsantaḥ sva-dhāmāni yayur mudā śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; natvā—offering obeisances; harim—to Lord Hari; tadā—then; devāḥ—the demigods; brahma-ādyāḥ—headed by Brahmā; munibhiḥ—the sages; saha—with; gāyantaḥ—singing; tam—Him; praśaṁsantaḥ—praising; sva-dhāmāni—to their own abodes; yayuḥ—went; mudā—happily. Śrī Nārada said: Bowing down to Lord Hari and singing His praises, the demigods headed by Brahmā went with the sages to their own abodes.

atha maithila-rājendra janma-kāle hareḥ sati ambaraṁ nirmalaṁ bhūtaṁ nirmalāś ca diśo daśa

Translation

O great king of Mithilā, at the time of Lord Hari's birth the sky and the ten directions became very pure.

ujjvalās tārakā jātāḥ prasannaṁ bhūmi-maṇḍalam nadā nadyaḥ samudrāś ca prasannāpaḥ sarovarāḥ

Synonyms

ujjvalāḥ — brilliant ; tārakāḥ — stars ; jātāḥ — born ; prasannam — happy ; bhūmi-maṇḍalam — the earth ; nadāḥ — rivers ; nadyaḥ — streams ; samudrāḥ — oceans ; ca — and ; prasanna — clear ; āpaḥ — waters ; sarovarāḥ — lakes.

Translation

The stars were bright, the earth happy, and the rivers, streams, oceans, and lakes filled with pure waters.

sahasra-dala-padmāni śata-patrāṇi sarvataḥ vicakāni marut-sparśaiḥ patad-gandhi-rajāṁsi ca

Translation

The breezes' touch spreading their fragrant pollen, thousand-petal hundred-leaf lotuses bloomed everywhere.

teṣu nedur madhukarā nadantaś citra-pakṣiṇaḥ śītalā manda-yānāś ca gandhāktā vayavo vavuḥ

Synonyms

teṣu — among them ; neduḥ — sounded ; madhukarāḥ — bees ; nadantaḥ — humming ; citra — colorful ; pakṣiṇaḥ — birds ; śītalāḥ — cool ; manda-yānāḥ — slowly moving ; ca — and ; gandhāktāḥ — fragrant ; vayavaḥ — breezes ; vavuḥ — blew.

Translation

Bees hummed, colorful birds sang, and fragrant cooling breezes gently blew.

ṛddhā janapadā grāmā nāgarā maṅgalāyanāḥ devā viprā nagā gāvo babhūvuḥ sukha-samvṛtāḥ

ṛddhāḥ — wealthy ; janapadāḥ — countries ; grāmāḥ — villages ; nāgarāḥ — towns ; maṅgalāyanāḥ — auspicious ; devāḥ — demigods ; viprāḥ — brāhmaṇas ; nagāḥ — trees ; gāvaḥ — cows ; babhūvuḥ — became ; sukha-samvṛtāḥ — filled with happiness.

Translation

The countries became wealthy, the towns and villages auspicious, and the demigods, brāhmaṇas, trees, and cows happy.

deva-dundubhayo nedur jaya-dhvani-samākulāḥ yatra tatra mahā-rāja sarveṣāṁ maṅgalaṁ param

Synonyms

deva-dundubhayaḥ — the drums of the demigods ; neduḥ — sounded ; jaya — of victory ; dhvani — with sounds ; samākulāḥ — filled ; yatra — where ; tatra — there ; mahā-rāja — O great king ; sarveṣām — of all ; maṅgalam — auspiciousness ; param — great.

Translation

The drums of the demigods were filled with sounds of victory. Everywhere was great auspiciousness.

vidyādharāś ca gandharvāḥ siddha-kinnara-cāraṇāḥ jaguḥ sunāyakā devās tuṣṭuvuḥ stutibhiḥ param

Synonyms

vidyādharāḥ — Vidyādharas ; ca — also ; gandharvāḥ — Gandharvas ; siddha — Siddhas ; kinnara — Kinnaras ; cāraṇāḥ — Caranas ; jaguḥ — sang ; sunāyakāḥ — great ; devāḥ — demigods ; tuṣṭuvuḥ — praised ; stutibhiḥ — with prayers ; param — the Supreme.

Translation

The Vidyādharas, Gandharvas, Siddhas, Kinnaras, and Cāraṇas sang, and the great demigods offered prayers to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

nanṛtur divi gandharvā vidyādharyo mudānvitāḥ pārijātaka-mandāra- mālatī-sumanāṁsi ca

Translation

mumucur deva-mukhyāś ca garjantaś ca ghanā jale bhādre budhe kṛṣṇa-pakṣe dhatrarkṣe harṣaṇe vṛṣe karṇe 'ṣṭamyām ardha-rātre nakṣatreśa-mahodaye andhakārāvṛte kāle devakyāṁ śauri-mandire āvirāsīd dhariḥ sākṣād āraṇyām adhvare 'gni-vat nanṛtuḥ—danced; divi—in heaven; gandharvāḥ—the Gandharvas; vidyādharyaḥ—the Vidhyadharas; mudā-anvitāḥ—with happiness; pārijātaka—parijatas; mandāra—mandaras; mālatī—malatis; sumanāṁsi—and sumanaḥs; ca—and; mumucuḥ—released; deva-mukhyāḥ—the great demigods; ca—and; garjantaḥ—roaring; ca—and; ghanāḥ—the clouds; jale—in water; bhādre—in the month of Bhadra; budhe—mercury; kṛṣṇa-pakṣe—in the dark fortnight; dhatra-ṛkṣe—the star Rohiṇī; harṣaṇe—harṣaṇa-yoga; vṛṣe—Taurus; karṇe—on the horizon; aṣṭamyām—on the eighth day; ardha—in the middle; rātre—of the night; nakṣatreśa—of the moon; mahā—great; udaye—in the rising; andhakāra—with darkness; āvṛte—covered; kāle—at the time; devakyām—in Devakī; śauri—of Vasudeva; mandire—in the palace; āvirāsīt—appeared; hariḥ—Lord Hari; sākṣāt—directly; āraṇyām—on the araṇi stick; adhvare—in a yajṣa; agni—fire; vat—like. The happy Gandharvas and Vidyādharas danced in heaven, the great demigods threw many pārijāta, mandāra, mālatī, and sumanaḥ flowers, and the clouds thundered and sprinkled water. Then, in the month of Bhādra (August-September), during the eighth tithi of the dark fortnight, when Mercury, Taurus, and the Rohiṇī star were on the horizon, and the planets were in harṣaṇa-yoga, in the middle of the night, when everything was covered with darkness and the moon was rising, in Vasudeva's palace Lord Hari appeared from Devakī as in a yajṣa fire appears from the araṇi wood.

He saw her standing on a splendid chariot with moving cāmaras. Then Goddess Yogamāyā, served by many attendants, her glorious form splendid as a hundred suns, her eight arms holding weapons, and her voice like thunder, spoke to Kaṁsa.

aho śrī-kṛṣṇacandrasya paripūrṇatama-prabhoḥ dāna-dakṣaiḥ kaṭākṣaiś ca kiṁ na syād bhūmi-maṇḍale

Synonyms

ahaḥ — oh ; śrī-kṛṣṇacandrasya — of Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra ; paripūrṇatama-prabhoḥ — the Supreme Personality of Godhead ; dāna — charity ; dakṣaiḥ — expert ; kaṭākṣaiḥ — with sidelong glances ; ca — also ; kim — whether ; na — not ; syāt — may be ; bhūmi-maṇḍale — on the circle of the earth.

Translation

Ah, will the charitable glances of Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, not come to the circle of the earth?

prātaḥ-kāle tadā kaṁsaḥ pralambādīn mahāsurān samāhūya khalas tebhyo 'vadad uktaṁ ca māyayā

Synonyms

prātaḥ — morning ; kāle — at the time ; tadā — then ; kaṁsaḥ — Kaṁsa ; pralamba-ādīn — headed by Pralamba ; mahā — great ; asurān — demons ; samāhūya — calling ; khalaḥ — the demon ; tebhyaḥ — to them ; avadat — spoke ; uktam — said ; ca — and ; māyayā — by Yogamāyā.

Translation

Early in the morning the demon Kaṁsa called together the great demons headed by Pralambāsura and told them what Yogamāyā said.

kaṁsa uvāca jāto me hy anta-kṛd bhūmau kathito yogamāyayā anirdaśān nidarśāṁs ca śiśūn yūyaṁ haniṣyatha kaṁsaḥ uvāca—Kaṁsa said; jātaḥ—born; me—of me; hi—indeed; anta—the end; kṛt—doing; bhūmau—on the earth; kathitaḥ—spoken; yogamāyayā—by Yogamāyā; anirdaśān—younger than ten days; nidarśān—older than ten days; ca—and; śiśūn—infants; yūyam—you; haniṣyatha—should kill. Kaṁsa said: Yogamāyā said the person that will bring my end is already born on the earth. Therefore all of you please kill all infants, whether they are younger or older than ten days.

daityā ūcuḥ sajjasya dhanuṣo yuddhe bhavatā dvandva-yodhinā tāṅkārenodgatā devā manyase taiḥ kathaṁ bhayam

daityāḥ — the demons ; ūcuḥ — said ; sajjasya — preparing ; dhanuṣaḥ — bows ; yuddhe — in the battle ; bhavatā — by you ; dvandva-yodhinā — in a duel ; tāṅkārena — with the sound of the bow udgatāḥ—come ; devāḥ — the demigods ; manyase — you think ; taiḥ — by them ; katham — how? ; bhayam — fear.

Translation

The demons said: When you ready your bow for a fight, the twang of its string makes the demigods flee. Why do you fear them?

go-vipra-sādhu-śrutayo devā dharmādayaḥ pare viṣṇoś ca tanavo hy eṣāṁ nāśe daitya-balaṁ smṛtam

Synonyms

gaḥ — the cows ; vipra — brāhmaṇas ; sādhu — devotees ; śrutayaḥ — and Vedas ; devāḥ — the demigods ; dharma — the principles of religion ; ādayaḥ — beginning with ; pare — others ; viṣṇoś — of Lord Viṣṇu ; ca — also ; tanavaḥ — bodies ; hi — indeed ; eṣām — of them ; nāśe — in the destruction ; daitya — of the demons ; balam — the power ; smṛtam — remembered.

Translation

The cows, brāhmaṇas, devotees, Vedas, demigods, and others headed by the principles of religion, are the limbs of Lord Viṣṇu. When they are destroyed, the power of the demons will be remembered.
GS 1.11.71

jāto yadi mahā-viṣṇus te śatrur yo mahī-tale ayaṁ caitad vadhopāyo gavādīnāṁ vihiṁsanam

Synonyms

jātaḥ — born ; yadi — if ; mahā-viṣṇuḥ — Lord Mahā-Viṣṇu ; te — your ; śatruḥ — enemy ; yaḥ — who ; mahī — of the earth ; tale — on the surface ; ayam — He ; ca — also ; etat — this ; vadha — killing ; upāyaḥ — means ; gava — cows ; ādīnām — beginning with ; vihiṁsanam — violence.

Translation

If your enemy Lord Mahā-Viṣṇu is indeed born on the earth then the way to kill Him is to attack the cows and these others.

śrī-nārada uvāca itthaṁ mahodbhaṭā duṣṭā daiteyāḥ kaṁsa-noditāḥ dudruvuḥ khaṁ gavādibhyo jaghnur jātāṁs ca bālakān śrī-nāradaḥ uvāca—Śrī Nārada said; ittham—thus; mahā—great; udbhaṭāḥ—powerful; duṣṭāḥ—wicked; daiteyāḥ—demons; kaṁsa—by Kaṁsa; noditāḥ—sent; dudruvuḥ—ran; kham—to the sky; gava—by the cows; ādibhyaḥ—headed; jaghnuḥ—killed; jātān—born; ca—also; bālakān—infants. Śrī Nārada said: Sent by Kaṁsa, these powerful and sinful demons flew in the sky. They killed many newborn infants and many cows and other pious beings.

ā-samudrād bhūmi-tale viśantaś ca gṛhe gṛhe kāma-rūpa-dhara-daityāś ceruḥ sarpa ivābhavan

Translation

From sea to sea traveling over the earth and entering house after house, these demons, who could assume any form they wished, moved about like so many snakes.

utpathā udbhaṭā daityās tatrāpi kaṁsa-noditāḥ kapiḥ surāpo 'li-hato bhūta-grasta ivābhavan

Synonyms

utpathāḥ — left the path ; udbhaṭāḥ — great ; daityāḥ — demons ; tatra — there ; api — also ; kaṁsa-noditāḥ — sent by Kaṁsa ; kapiḥ — a monkey ; surāpaḥ — a drunkard ; ali — by drink ; hataḥ — destroyed ; bhūta — by a ghost ; grastaḥ — haunted ; iva — like ; abhavan — became.

Translation

The great demons sent by Kaṁsa were far from the path (of religion). They were like a monkey, or a drunkard destroyed by drink, or a man possessed by a ghost.

vaideha maithila narendra upendra-bhakta dharmiṣṭha-mukhya sutapo janaka pratāpin etat satāṁ ca bhuvi helanam aṅga rājan sarvaṁ chinatti bahulāśva catuṣpadārthān

vaideha — O king of Videha ; maithila — O king of Mithilā ; nara — of men ; indra — O lord ; upendra — of Lord Upendra ; bhakta — O devotee ; dharmiṣṭha — of they who follow the principles of religion ; mukhya — O first ; sutapaḥ — O austere one ; janaka — O father ; pratāpin — O powerful one ; etat — this ; satām — of the devotees ; ca — also ; bhuvi — on earth ; helanam — harassment ; aṅga — O pious one ; rājan — O king ; sarvam — everything ; chinatti — broke ; bahulāśva — O Bahulāśva ; catuṣpada-arthān — the four goals of life.

Translation

O king of Videha, O king of Mithilā, O lord of men, O devotee of Lord Upendra, O first of the pious, O austere one, O father, O powerful one, in this way (the demons) harassed the devotees on the earth. O pious king Bahulāśva, (the demons) broke apart the four goals of pious life.
