Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

A person exhibiting qualities such as self-control is understood to be predominantly in the mode of goodness. Similarly, a passionate person is recognized by his lust, and one in ignorance is recognized by qualities such as anger. Having shown that the guṇas appear unmixed and mixed, the Lord now shows how guṇas are labeled by predominance of a guṇa, since names are given by predominance of a certain quality. This is explained in three verses.
