इत्येतद् ब्रह्मण: पुत्रा आश्रुत्यात्मानुशासनम् ।
सनन्दनमथानर्चु: सिद्धा ज्ञात्वात्मनो गतिम् ॥ ४२ ॥

Translation
The Supreme Lord, Śrī Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, said: Having heard these instructions about the Supreme Self, the Personality of Godhead, the sons of Brahmā now understood their final destination. They felt perfectly satisfied and honored Sanandana with their worship.

Thus the Veda-stuti, or the prayers offered by the personified Vedas to Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, were first narrated in disciplic succession by Sanandana to his brothers, all of whom were born of Brahmā at the beginning of the universe.
Purport
Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī explains that ātmānuśāsanam can be understood both as instructions given to benefit the jīva souls and as instructions about the living entity’s relationship with the foundation of all existence. Similarly, ātmano gatim means both the destination of the jīva soul and the means of reaching the Supreme Soul. By hearing the twenty-eight prayers of the personified Vedas, which comprise the elucidation of the brahmopaniṣat spoken at the beginning of this chapter, the sages assembled in Brahmaloka made great progress toward their goal of pure love of God.

The sons of Brahma having heard through the twenty eight verses of praises by the Vedas, the elaboration of the brahma upanisad consisting of the second verse of this chapter, instructions on the supreme soul, attained their goal, bhagavat prema, and worshipped Sananda.

Having attentively heard (āśrutvā) what the śrutis said (evam), teachings for the benefit of the jīva (ātmānuśāsanam), teaching about Svayam Bhagavān, the root form of the Lord and related matters, and therefore understanding the goal of the jīva, or the method of understanding the Lord (ātma-gatim), the sons of Brahmā felt astonishment (siddhāḥ) because of the nature of the descriptions of the Lord’s powers, or felt fully satisfied in all desires.

Thus, or in this way, the sages such as Sanaka (ete) understood. Another version has etat: the sons of Brahmā understood what the śrutis said (etat). It was benefical for the jīvas (ātmānuśāsanam). Thogoughly hearing (āśrutya), understanding the goal of the Lord, perfected in yoga or complete in their desires, they worshipped Sananda.
